Education
Education is a key component in TMSC programmes. Attempts
to enroll rescued children to public schools recorded minimal
success due to stigma associated with street and or abused
children, corporal punishment in public schools and general
lack of concern by teachers beyond the classroom to address
psychological street and or trauma the children under TMSC
care faced while in school. To maintain consistency in the
integration process and ensure active participation in educational
programmes, TMSC opened up an integrated school programme
providing both primary school lessons and vocational training
to tap the potentials of the targeted children. TMSC today
manages one duly registered primary School and Early Childhood
Education Programmes and it is managed by qualified staff
who undergo regular induction to embrace family approach in
providing classroom instructions. We are expecting to have
our first national examination next year and currently we
are participating in inter schools examination in the district
which has seen our kids perform better. |
Vocational Training
TMSC has started setting up an integrated programme that seeks
to address the needs and potentials of all targeted children.
The Vocational department is in the process of opening a non
formal education program to absorb former street children school
drop outs and or child labourers who could not be integrated
successfully in the formal primary school departments. The vocational
training in tailoring is helping the girls and the plans are
underway for more training including hair dressing and beauty
therapy, home economics entrepreneurship are going on. In its
efforts to empower in empowerment, TMSC has now acquired land
for the implementation of a Trade school which will be offering
carpentry, mechanic, metal work, computers basics, business
administration etc. We are in the process of construction and
we hope this will be a great future for the children and society
in general.
Emergency Relief
TMSC strives to reach out to the neediest and less fortunate
in the communities through emergency relief. The project is
also targeting most vulnerable adults and the old widows in
the locality in the times of droughts and famine.
